The village of Gigondas received the status of "cru" in 1971, as one of only five villages in southern Rhône. Located between Orange and Mont Ventoux, the appeal spreads southwest to the hills of "Dentelles de Montmirail", known for the mountains responsible for the incredible diversity of soils in this appeal. Sand, blue marl and limestone are the dominant soils, while the southern aspect allows excellent exposure to the sun. Vineyards can reach a height of 400 meters above sea level, which often means late ripening of the fruit.
Gigondas is a dark ruby wine with an intense nose with notes of spices, red stone fruit, vanilla, licorice and raisins. The palate full, powerful and abundant with a hint of cherry liqueur and forest fruits. Pleasantly acrid and very harmonious. This extravagant wine shows the perfect harmony between the nose and the palate. Ripening 18 months in French oak barrels, it is very durable, and reaches its full flavor after 2-3 years. Serve at 17 ° C with meat dishes and roasted vegetables. Gigondas will also cope with spicy Indian and Mexican dishes.
