Dominio de la Abadesa Reserva was made exclusively from grapes selected from the oldest vines growing in clay at an altitude of 900 meters. These growing conditions create elegant wines with a beautiful structure. Due to their height, the vineyards experience day-to-day changes between the days and nights, which allows the grapes to grow slowly and evenly, contributing to their high concentration of both color and tannin.
The 2011 yearbook was classified as "excellent" with variable weather in spring and good conditions in autumn, which allowed the distribution of the harvest, because each vineyard matured to perfection. The wines from this year are rich in color and balanced alcohol, acidity and tannins.
The wine aged 24 months in French oak barrels and
American, then aged in a bottle for another year.
During this process, the wine is stored in carefully monitored conditions, in low light and controlled humidity. In the middle of the aging process the wine is smashed and returned to the barrel. The wine is deep cherry red. It represents the essence of the area it comes from, as well as the power and elegance of the nose and palate.
In the nose, the wine shows intense and complex aromas of ripe black fruit, balsamic vinegar, with notes of cocoa and roasted spices. The wine is smooth and balanced with ripe, well-developed tannins and a round mouth ending.
