Macabeo (Viura) is a Spanish variety that comes from La Rioja, where it is the basic white strain. Very well-known and widely cultivated in Castile and Catalonia. The bushes give a small bunch, but large sizes. This strain is much more efficient than red varieties, but its berries are very sensitive to climatic conditions and are therefore difficult to grow. Characteristic fragrance notes for Macabeo are flowers, fresh fruit, citrus, apple and pear. A perfect wine for aperitifs and light salads.
