Barolo is called the "King of Piedmont". It is made of a phenomenal, though very capricious strain of Nebbiolo, which does not actually exist outside of Piedmont. This strain is very good with fogs on the Langhe hills, especially around the Tanaro river. He fantastically "gives" his place of origin in wine.
Barolo is a great wine. Delightful even as a young vintage, but it can also ripen in a bottle for many years - still developing. Before being introduced to the market, it usually matures in oak barrels, and then rests in a bottle. Perceptible aromas of plums, violets and truffles blend well with quite high acidity and tannin. Perfect for venison.
